Multifunctional thin films are developed by means of processes in gaseous phase, under vacuum conditions and at high or low temperature, or at atmospheric pressure. Coatings can have a width in the range from few nanometres to some micron, own several colours depending on the substrate and conditions of the process applied, so as different properties based on the type of coating. According to its final application and the chosen functionality, these are the techniques that could be applied:
