Fundación ITMA is integrated in the Technological Centre Network of Asturias under the legal personality of a private foundation without profitable aims. It started doing R+D+I and offering services to companies in 1991, as an association of companies first and then, after a short transitional period, as a foundation. In the year 2005, Fundación ITMA started managing two Technological Centres: the Non Metallic Materials Technological Centre , in the historic location in Llanera and the newly built Steel and Metallic Materials Technological Centre, located in Avilés. This new centre was born from the necessity to promote the R+D+I lines that had been opened in the fields of steel and other metallic materials and it was created with an specialisation strategy in the steel and metal mechanic sectors. Both centres are under the control and management of the Managing Board of the Fundación ITMA.
Some of the objectives of Fundación ITMA are to actively contribute to the development of the society, to be the engine for the growth of the production, transformation, and appication of materials and raw materials.
Fundación ITMA is registered under the number 33/FDC0031 in the Resgister of Teaching and Cultural Foundations of General Interest of the Principality of Asturias.
