The group "Development of steels and alloys" has extensive experience in the proposal and technical execution of projects for the development of new grades of steels and alloys both nationally and internationally. Some of the projects in which it is involved aim at the development of new grades of rolling cylinders manufactured by static and centrifuged casting, new grades of sleeper bumpers for the automotive industry, forged train rail ends, fan aluminum blades resistant to high temperatures, new steel grades of low-alloy with high and ultra-high-strength for the automobile industry, etc..

The group is composed of highly qualified personnel with extensive experience in obtaining different qualities in induction melting furnaces, in design of heat and thermomechanical treatments and in the use of numerous simulation techniques and microstructural characterization.

- Fusion and moulding of iron foundries and aluminium alloys.
- Determination of transformation curves (CHT, CST, TTT) and structural steel transformations. Kinetics of transformation.
- Design and optimization of heat treatments, thermomechanical treatments and surface treatments of steels and alloys.
- Microstructural characterization of metal components.
- Analysis of failures on metal components: the automotive, railway and shipping industries, etc.
