The objective of the Corrosion and Protection department is the study of behaviour towards corrosion of metallic materials, as well as the research of the most appropriate preventive measures in each situation.
The recent refurbishment of this line of work aims to boost the research position of ITMA in the field of corrosion and protection of metallic materials, and for that we have defined the following strategic lines:
Aggressive behaviour in b>
Analysis of the behaviour of metallic materials in aggressive environment:
- Tests in corrosion chambers.
- Electrochemical tests.
- Standardized tests.
Diagnosis b>
Study of failure causes on metallic materials due to exposure to aggressive environments, as well as evaluation of alternatives.
Protective coatings b>
Investigation of anti-corrosive coatings:
- Metallic coatings, such as galvanizing.
- Organic Coatings.
Value-added Coatings b>
Research of coatings with additional elements of high-added value:
- Self-cleaning surfaces.
- Bactericidal surfaces.
- Fireproof surfaces.
